About the Ourgh Aznagh Cooperative

Located in the heart of the Iznaguen region in Morocco, the Ourgh Aznag cooperative is a proud, family-run business.
Our name, "Ourgh Aznag," means "the gold of the Aznag region" in the Amazigh language—an allusion to saffron, known as "red gold." It symbolizes the richness and value of the products we lovingly create and share with the world.
Originally founded to produce and market high-quality, organic saffron, the cooperative has expanded its product range to include a variety of organic and artisanal products from Morocco – including traditional handmade carpets and other handicrafts. Our vision is based on showcasing the beauty of Moroccan cultural heritage while promoting sustainable and ethical practices that benefit our community.

Our mission
At Ourgh Aznag, our mission is to bridge the gap between Morocco's vibrant culture and the global market. We want to share the richness of Moroccan traditions through authentic, high-quality organic and handcrafted products.
But our commitment goes beyond trade:
We are passionately committed to strengthening our local community. By promoting sustainable agriculture and artisanal practices, as well as investing in social initiatives, we create opportunities for local people while simultaneously protecting the environment.
Every product purchased from Ourgh Aznag directly supports these efforts – so that Moroccan culture can flourish and its guardians can benefit directly.

The story of Ourgh Aznag began generations ago in the picturesque region of Iznaghn, where our ancestors lived in harmony with nature and their traditions.
What once began as a modest way of life has developed into a thriving cooperative – rooted in family and community.
In those early days, the men of our family worked tirelessly on the farm, cultivating saffron and other crops using traditional farming methods passed down through generations. Meanwhile, the women sat together at home, weaving carpets—thread by thread, with great care, patience, and love. Each piece was a handcrafted masterpiece, often taking weeks or months to complete. Once finished, the carpets were sold at the weekly markets in the surrounding villages, providing a modest income.
This way of life, characterized by perseverance and dedication, became the foundation of our cooperative. In 2015, inspired by these time-honored traditions, our family came together to establish the Ourgh Aznag Cooperative. It was officially launched in 2018 – with the aim of preserving our cultural heritage while simultaneously creating new opportunities for our community.
Today, Ourgh Aznag honors this legacy by blending traditional techniques with modern approaches. This ensures that every product reflects the same care and craftsmanship that distinguished our ancestors. From organic saffron to handcrafted rugs, our cooperative is living proof of how hard work, family values, and a deep connection to nature can create something extraordinary.
